Incredible Evening at the iPro

Just over 200 Team Ilkeston swimmers, parents, committee and coaching team gathered together on Friday night at the iPro Stadium in Derby to celebrate the success of our swimmers over the past 12 months. The celebrations were centred around the recent Club Championships in September, and also the recognition of swimmers that had achieved ultimate honours at various stages of the competitive pathway.

There were a total of 346 Club Championship awards which were handed out to the swimmers during the awards ceremony. The coaching team and club committee were pleased to be able to recognise the additional significant achievements throughout last season by way of commending swimmers that had achieved County, Regional and National qualifications. After speaking to a few of the coaches and committee, we believe this is the best total of qualifiers ever in all three categories at once. That took the total number of awards handed out to 384 for those who attended on the evening!

Swimmers that collected their awards on the night were:

County Awards: Alex King, Ashley Hutchinson, Alex Baldwin, Cameron Halliday,  Charlie Palmer, Charlotte Mitchell, Dalton Smith, Ethan Hulme, Emma Wilkins, James Wright, Kynan Wong, Leah Burgin-Rawson, Leah Woodhead, Lewis Brown, Lewis Wright, Natasha Barker, Ollie Palmer, Paige Baldwin, Ryan Kirk, Sophie Stone, Tegan Hulme, William Wright, William Foster

Regional Awards: Charlie Palmer, Kynan Wong, Leah Burgin-Rawson, Lewis Brown, Lewis Wright, William Foster, William Wright

National Award: Charlie Palmer

A special award for commitment, dedication and for achieving 15 years as a member of the Club was awarded to Shaney Bunce. Shaney is a pleasure to have at Ilkeston Swimming Club, always smiling and has a positive attitude towards her training always giving her very best. A perfect role model for all club swimmers! As a mark of her achievement the committee and coaching team were pleased to be able to award her with an Ilkeston Hoodie and Club Bag. Well done Shaney!

Finally, a big thank you to Kyle our Events Organiser who spent a lot of time planning and delivering a hugely successful and professional Club Championships & Presentation Awards Evening. The atmosphere was lively, fun and most importantly the team spirit was fantastic. Big thanks go to Roy Reynolds, Dan Sloan, Jake & Kate Beharall, Phil Coe, Elaine Wilkins and Steve Woodhead for their time and hard work with trophies/medals, announcing/presenting the awards, organising the Club shop/raffle, and for taking photographs of the swimmers receiving their awards on the night.

Well done Team Ilkeston – another great moment for the Club!

Thrilling Third in NASL R2

A super performance from Team Ilkeston swimmers in the second round draw at Market Harborough on Saturday evening. It was another difficult draw with some very good opposition racing against us. We started well and made a strong statement early on in the gala, and continued throughout the evening performing well in individuals and relay events. Race skills looked stronger than the previous round and the specific skills that we’ve practised in training are starting to shine through.

The coaching team still think there is plenty more to give with just 13 points separating us from equalling the gala winners on the night. Again the men’s 6×50 Freestyle Cannon was the highlight of the evening with yet another tight encounter and top quality racing. The spectators and the swimmers roared on their team from around the poolside, and as usual it didn’t disappoint with Team Ilkeston racing to an outstanding second place, so very close to touching first.

The Statistics:

9 – First Places, 12 – Second Places, and 7 – Third Places

6 Personal Best times & 13 Team Personal Best times with a total of 33 Improvement Places in comparison with Round 1! We’ve broken some more Club History in that we scored 191 Points on the night which is the best EVER points total in any round 2 draw of the NASL for Team Ilkeston!

4 Club Records were broken at the second round draw by two swimmers:

Lewis Wright and Summer Kennedy

Lewis Wright with a new record for the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1.14.18 beating his own record set at the Club Championships in September.

Summer Kennedy with 3 new club records in the 100m Freestyle in a time of 1.03.01 breaking Emma Hulme’s record from 1998. In the 100m Fly with a time of 1.11.67 breaking Lauren Booth’s record from 2015, and in the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.29.80 breaking Grace Vivian’s 2011 record.

Well done to all swimmers that have raced this round and in the last round. You are all a credit to the club demonstrating a professional attitude and a top team spirit as usual.

Thanks to our club officials, timekeepers, team managers and coaches on poolside!

Remember round 3 will be on Sat 10th Dec – I will begin team selections for the final gala of this League over the next few days. The venue is tbc, but as usual i will confirm this afterwards.

Tonight’s Team Meeting

Main Squad:

Thank you for meeting with us tonight after training to discuss the proposed swim camp for 2018. As we said we have already undertook a lot of planning between us all and have met on numerous occasions over the last few weeks to improve the competitive element of the club; one of the ways we are implementing this is through the swim camp. We feel that this would be another opportunity for swimmers to develop themselves both in swimming and academically. Ultimately, we want to keep moving the club forward in a positive light and this is a great way to do so.

Phil will be uploading the presentation and the application form as soon as possible, and we ask that you pass this form back to Dan, Kyle or myself by Sunday 20th November 2016 to register your interest. We encourage your applications! As soon as we get a better idea of numbers, we can then make further enquiries and publish a more accurate and finalised price. We will call another meeting over the next couple of weeks to discuss this further.

In the meantime we look forward to receiving your application forms!

Any questions, please feel free to ask us
