Bramcote Open Meet

Two Ilkeston swimmers swam at the Bramcote Open Meet at the weekend, and had a successful meet, combined with personal best times and a handful of medals.

Sisters McKinley Cotton and Delainey Cotton swam at the meet and gained 45 points for team Ilkeston which is amazing for two swimmers to achieve.

The results were:
McKinley – Gold 200 Backstroke
Gold 200 IM
Gold 50 Fly
Gold 50 Free
Gold 50 Backstroke
Silver 50 Breaststroke

Delainey – Bronze 100 Backstroke
With 3 x top 6 places in her age group

Well done girls keep up the good work.

Increase to Membership Fees

Further to the Club AGM on Sunday, the published increase in membership fees may have come as a surprise.  Apologies, this publication should have followed the issue/e-mail of member letters which will be issued in the next week.

Unfortunately, circumstances have left the Committee with no option but to increase the fees as of January 2019. This supports our continuing objective to deliver value for money training for our aspiring swimmers, while maintaining a high standard of coaching/ competition, and avoid incurring significant losses to our annual budget due to VPLC removal of the Splash Pool availability for ISC paid lessons.

Even with these increases, ISC remains one of the best value memberships in Derbyshire swimming, with a number of our swimmers reaching County, Regional and National standards. The Committee is looking forward to your ongoing support and a year filled with more achievements for our swimmers.

Presidents Night

The annual Presidents Award Night is this Sunday.

Date: Time: Awards Start Time:
Sunday 2nd December 3pm – 6pm *4pm* – TBC

What is the Presidents Night?

The main purpose of the evening is for all members of our club to come together for a fun-filled evening, and to present the Presidents Night Awards.

All swimmers, parents, friends and family members are all welcome and encouraged to come along into the pool and have some fun and a swim! The pool will be open, with floats, woggles, balls, and other equipment available for use. The slide will also be open and available for use. The pool will be open in this format from 3pm – 6pm.

At 4pm (TBC) everyone will be asked to sit around the outside of the pool, and the Presidents Night Awards will then be presented. Once the awards have been presented, everyone may then re-enter the pool.

The Presidents Night Awards are presented by our President, Steve Darkins, at the end of the year to recognise and reward individuals in the club. Although only one swimmer can win the award, being nominated is a huge achievement in itself.

The awards are voted for by the Coaching Team who consider individual’s achievements, technique, application and overall approach to and improvement of their swimming.

The awards include:

  • Foundation Squad Endeavour Award
  • Foundation Squad Most Improved Award
  • Team Trophy Award
  • Butterfly Award
  • Backstroke Award
  • Breaststroke Award
  • Freestyle Award
  • Most Improved Junior Boy (12/U Yrs)

Club Colour Gala

Date: Warm Up Time:
Sunday 16th December 3pm

Entry forms are now being handed out by the coaching team for this years Club Colour Gala.

Swimmers must complete an entry form in order to participate. Swimmers are not able to participate if an entry form is not completed, and handed in.

General Info:

  • The Colour Gala will involve all main pool swimmers.
  • Swimmers from all squads are mixed together to create six different teams.
  • Each team will have a dedicated team captain.
  • Swimmers will participate in a range of preselected individual and relay events.
  • Points will be given to teams based on their position in each event. 6 points are awarded for a 1st place finish, 5 Points for a 2nd place finish, 4 for 3rd place, 3 for 4thplace, 2 for 5th place and 1 for 6th place.
  • The team with the highest points overall will win the Gala.
  • We highly encourage all swimmers to enter this event as it is an ideal opportunity to bond with fellow team members and participate in a wide variety of races / events.

Once entered if a swimmer is then unable to participate, then please notify a member of the coaching team as swimmers will be placed in a team and allocated races. The swimmer will then need to be removed from the team and races if they can no longer participate, and other swimmers will need to be placed in the race instead. If we aren’t notified then this will have to be done on the day which we would like to avoid having to do.

The entry fee for spectators is £1.50. Programmes are provided.

A Cake Sale may take place on the day – pending confirmation.

If you have any question or queries about the Gala, then please speak to a member of the coaching team.

In order to successfully run this gala, we require a range of helpers. If you are able to help on the day then please let Dan Sloan know. All help is much appreciated.

Please note that no main pool sessions will take place on this date due to the gala.

County Championships

Ilkeston Swimming Club will be manning the doors at the County Championships. This gives our club the opportunity to run a raffle / tombola, and raise funds for our club.

Could you please donate any suitable prizes or unwanted Christmas gifts between now and the end of January.

Please hand these to Victoria Bull or Claire Cotton.

Thank you!
