Nova Meet at Harvey Hadden on 10 March

Ilkeston Swimming Club was well represented at the Nova Centurion Long Course Sprint Meet on Sunday with a total of 31 swimmers taking part, across all age groups. Over a long and tiring Sunday, and having just taken part in a gruelling two weekends of racing in February at the Derbyshire County Championships, our swimmers competed brilliantly against a very large number of swimmers from a range of other Clubs. After such a short break, the swimmers achieved an amazing 82% personal best rate with 25 top 6 finishes, 34 top 10 places and 9 medals for;
Fred Buckingham with Gold in 50m and 100m Breaststroke,
Emmi Charlesworth with Silver in 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke,
McKinley Cotton with Silver in 50m Butterfly and Bronze in 100m Freestyle,
Joshua Bestwick with Silver in 100m Butterfly and Bronze in 50m Butterfly,
Erin Pickard with Bronze in 50m Backstroke.

New East Midlands Championship qualifying times were achieved by Fred Buckingham, Erin Pickard and a first for Joshua Bestwick. Also, Ilkeston Swimming Club records were set by Erin Pickard for 13 years 100m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke, Erica Beharall for 13 years 50m Freestyle, Erin Miller for 14 years 100m Butterfly and Joshua Bestwick for 19 years 50m Butterfly.

Another great competition with the swimmers giving their all and demonstrating a huge improvement in turns and finishes. Well done for all your hard work;
Sophia Bull, Annie Poyner, Lily Osvath, Freya Miller, Emmi Charlesworth, Felicity Dobbs, McKinley Cotton, Arwen Moore, Alicia Bull, Erin Pickard, Erica Beharall, Holly Dobbs, Erin Miller, Delainey Cotton, Hannah Cope, Eve Beharall, Ashley Hutchinson, Maximus Bull, Adham Zilate, Leo Charlesworth, Alfie Brown, Dominic Webster, Steven Cope, Finley O’Neil, Louie Stadler, Fred Buckingham, George Buckingham, George Riley, Elliot Bestwick, Joshua Bestwick and Alex King.
The Club motto is demonstrated again…..HARD WORK CONQUERS EVERYTHING!

A big thank you goes to the Meet Coaches – Richard Tomlinson and Dan Sloan and Meet Team Managers – Claire Cotton, Victoria Bull, Kay Andrews and Emma Miller and parents for both officiating and supporting throughout the day.

The next focus for the Club will be the Chesterfield Open Meet on the 6th and 7th April at Matlock, with the aim of further improvements in speed, starts, and turns.
