Fundraising – 8th June Jamie Rigby Gala

The Club will be running this years Jamie Rigby Gala at Harvey Hadden on Saturday 8th June, with swimmer invitations to compete via the coaches in due course.  However, as this as this is also a fundraising event, the Club plans to hold a raffle and would be grateful of any donations.  Please give any suitable prizes to Claire or Victoria at the pool and many thanks for your continuing support.

NO Training this Saturday (27th April)

Apologies for the late notice but, due to the unavailability of a Level 2 Coach (this is an ASA insurance requirement), training is cancelled this Saturday (7.30-9.30am).  Training will be on as normal on Sunday.  As we are experiencing, this can be a difficult requirement for a small Club to meet in all circumstances, so if anyone is considering Coach training, possibly with a view to Level 2, please speak to Richard.

Well done to Maisie Dorrington, Felicity Dobbs, Mackenzi Wood, Emily Stone and Reece Tait for some great swims/pbs. Also, Arwen Moore for achieving her first Regional qualifying times in 50 free and 50 fly and Erica Beharall for adding to her Regional times with 100 free. There were so many swimmers less than one second short of a Regional time across many events, demonstrating amazing progress in the last 6 months of hard training and doing Ilkeston Swimming Club proud. There was a massive improvement on starts and back-end speed with 100% commitment that was a pleasure to watch.

There was great support between the swimmers and from parents/supporters in every race, professional behaviour in and around the pool area and also poolside support to swimmers from other clubs which is always nice to see.
A massive well done to all who took part and thank you to Head Coach; Richard Tomlinson, Assistant Coach; Dan Sloan, Team Managers; Claire Cotton, Victoria Bull, Kay Charlesworth and Emma Miller. Also, thank you to those parents who took on official roles in running the Open Meet and those who came along to support.

With the Club having 11 Regional qualifiers and 1 National qualifier, the main focus for training will now be the Regional Championships at the end of April/early May.

Derby and Notts Junior League Round 1

The final results, individual times and relay split times can now be found on the website in our member area:

Please contact a member of the coaching team is you require the user name and password for the members area.

We were drawn against some tough competition, but this did not appear to phase our swimmers, nor did they disappoint on the night!

Throughout the night, we managed to secure two first place finishes, ten second place finishes and fourteen third place finishes which is a brilliant effort by all swimmers.

We held third place overall throughout the gala right up until the final event, the cannon at the end, where unfortunately we were disqualified for one of the takeovers. Whilst disqualifications can be extremely frustrating, we learn from them, move on, and use them to further motivate us for the next round.

Overall, we finished in fourth place, missing out on third by one point! The effort levels from our swimmers were extremely high, and it was brilliant to see everyone (parents included) coming together as one team, and supporting their teammates.

The final results were City of Derby A in first with 269 points, Etwall Blues in second with 174 points, Nottingham Leander B in third with 160 points, Ilkeston in fourth with 159 points, Eckington in fifth with 159 points and Hucknall and Linby in sixth with 84 points.

A special mention and well done goes to Felicity Dobbs, Sami Zilate, Kieran Law and William Radford for representing Team Ilkeston for the first time at a team gala.

Thanks to Gary, Victoria, Kay, Steph, Kate, Jake, Eve, Holly and Delainey for all helping out on the night.

Round two is on Saturday 18th May and team selections will be being sent out via text message very shortly.
