Regional Success…

Well done to Alicia Bull, Eja Coe, James Wright and Lewis Brown after their performances at the East Midlands Age Group Championships, which were held at Corby International Pool last weekend.

Alicia qualified for the 50m Breaststroke earlier in the year at the County Championships, and it was the first time she had qualified for the Regionals. It’s always a daunting prospect to compete at the next level for the first time, but a quality skill driven race resulted in a LCM pb.

Eja was also a first time qualifier, and after her recent performances at open meets, she accumulated fourteen qualifying times. Outstanding performances in the 200m & 400m Individual Medley taking a podium place with 2 silver medals.

Lewis attended his third Regional’s last weekend and raced well under pressure finishing with some respectable placings. A total of seven qualifying times, and numerous pb’s with quality racing throughout the event.

It was James second time at the East Midland Championships. This season he achieved eight qualification times, and made the 50 breast final. This is the first time James had achieved a finals place at Regional level, and he went into the race in third place. A quality process race resulted in a bronze medal finish.

Well done to all of our swimmers on the home and DX programme.

Dobb Spring – Round 1

Team Ilkeston had a great start to the JC Dobbs Memorial Trophy.  We all braved the snow and ice to head up the first gala of the league at Hucknall Leisure Centre.

Firstly I would like to mention the fantastic debut swims from Adam Hill (Splash pool), Eva Johnson (Development squad) and Isabel Johnson (Development Squad).

Despite losing Ryan Kirk to illness early on (get well soon Ryan), we were off to a flying start with tough competition on the night.  Overall we had 25 top 3 places out of 48 races. Fantastic, well done!!!!

Unfortunately we swam a little too fast in 4 races, ending up with 4 speeding tickets, Girls 12/under Free relay (Erica, Fern, Alicia & Ella), Boys 10/under 25m Free – Leo Charlesworth, Girls 10/under 25m Fly – Naomi Forbes and Boys 10/under 25m Fly –  Alfie Brown.  Although I try really hard to select the correct races unfortunately I can not account for you lot smashing your PB’s!!

1st Place finishes from: Lewis Brown 14/under 50m Breast, Finley O’Neil 12/under 50m Fly, Louie Stadler 12/under 50m Back, Girls open Free relay (Abi, Tash, Eve and Naomi), Boys open Free relay (Jack, Jake, Ethan and Finley), Lewis Brown 14/under 50m Free, Girls 14/under Free relay (Paige, Eve, Ashley and Eva) and Alicia Bull 12/under 50m Free.

2nd Place finishes from: Girls 10/under Free relay (Ella, Eva, Naomi and Isabel), Boys 10/under Free relay (Alfie, Leo C, Janek and Max), Eve Beharall 14/under 50m Back, Leo Allanson 12/under 50m Breast, Alfie Brown 10/under 25m Back, Ethan Hulme Open 50m Breast, Isabel Johnson 10/under 25m Free, Natasha Barker Open 50m Free, Erica Beharall 12/under 50m Back, Louie Stadler 12/under 50m Free, Fern hunter 14/under 50m Free

3rd Place Finishes from: Open Medley relay (Jake, Abi, Tash and Ethan), 14/under Medley relay (Finley, Leo a, Paige and Ashley), Erica Beharall 12/under 50m Fly, Ela Sloan 10/under 25m Breast, Abi King Open 50m Fly and finally mixed cannon relay!

A few simple dq’s for us to work on at training but overall a great team performance on the night and onto round 2!!

Thanks to all swimmers, parents and especially poolside helpers, I couldn’t do it without you!
