We were drawn against some tough competition, but this did not appear to phase our swimmers, nor did they disappoint on the night!

Throughout the night, we managed to secure two first place finishes, ten second place finishes and fourteen third place finishes which is a brilliant effort by all swimmers.

We held third place overall throughout the gala right up until the final event, the cannon at the end, where unfortunately we were disqualified for one of the takeovers. Whilst disqualifications can be extremely frustrating, we learn from them, move on, and use them to further motivate us for the next round.

Overall, we finished in fourth place, missing out on third by one point! The effort levels from our swimmers were extremely high, and it was brilliant to see everyone (parents included) coming together as one team, and supporting their teammates.

The final results were City of Derby A in first with 269 points, Etwall Blues in second with 174 points, Nottingham Leander B in third with 160 points, Ilkeston in fourth with 159 points, Eckington in fifth with 159 points and Hucknall and Linby in sixth with 84 points.

A special mention and well done goes to Felicity Dobbs, Sami Zilate, Kieran Law and William Radford for representing Team Ilkeston for the first time at a team gala.

Thanks to Gary, Victoria, Kay, Steph, Kate, Jake, Eve, Holly and Delainey for all helping out on the night.

Round two is on Saturday 18th May and team selections will be being sent out via text message very shortly.

Fantastic weekend of Racing for Ilkeston Swimming Club!

With 2 days of Racing, Ilkeston swimmers took to the stage. First of all was Round 3 of the Arena League and our swimmers approached the gala with shear grit and determination. With some changes made to the team, and swimmers feeling ill, they didn’t let us down.

Every swimmer gave it their all, which resulted in a 1st place finish which has never been done before. Based on the teams efforts in the league this year, Ilkeston finished in 10th place which is amazing, and puts us up there next season for promotion.

After a late night on Saturday with tired swimmers, it was time to race again at the
DASA Sprints at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on the Sunday.

We didn’t disappoint, from young swimmers, to the older ones, they were amazing and it was nice to hear Ilkeston mentioned a lot based on swimmers performances at Arena and the DASA Sprints.

A lot of the younger swimmers swam for the first time in a long course pool, and took it all in there stride and were a credit to their coaches.

It was a weekend for Ilkeston to remember, with much more like this to come.

Stats for the DASA meet spoke for itself:
– A massive 94 % PB rate.
– 19 top 6 places.
– 10 medals won.
– 4 midlands qualifiers.

Medal winners were:

James Wright:

50 Fly Silver
50 Free Bronze
50 Breast Silver

Alex King:

50 Free Silver
50 Fly Bronze
50 Back Silver

Fred Buckingham:

50 Fly Bronze

Lewis Brown:

50 Back Bronze

McKinley Cotton:

50 Free Silver
50 Fly Bronze

A thank you goes out to supporting coaches Dan Sloan, Steph Brown, and Gary King.
Also team mangers Claire, Emma, Victoria, Kay, and Kate for there support over a very busy weekend of swimming.

And a thank you to the officials from Ilkeston and the parents for there great support.

Well done all, you’re a credit to Ilkeston Swimming Club, with more fast swimming ahead.

Another write up will follow soon in the Derby Telegraph and Ilkeston Advertiser.

What is the Presidents Night?

The main purpose of the evening is for all members of our club to come together for a fun-filled evening, and to present the Presidents Night Awards.
